How Dannt started making conversation with his own robber, he didn’t know, but he was happy to finally complain with someone. He hadn’t exactly made friends since he got here.
“Personally I buy used books, and the more trashed they are, the cheaper. Then, you can just use the pdf version but still have the textbook in class. It’s honestly so much easier. Or you can see if you can borrow it from the library and just bring it in for the classes he checks it, then return it after to avoid the fees. That option is a bit more troublesome though.”
“Oh shit, no way! That’s awesome, I never thought of that, thanks man! Man, I wish I talked to you sooner.”
“Yeah, it’s all good, maybe just avoid the crime after this? There’s tons of online jobs you can do during class and stuff. I don’t know, there’s always another option than crime. You sound like a good guy, just desperate.”
The robber turned friend (?) lowered his gun and sighed before returning the items in the bag to everyone. He then apologized to the cashier and then to everyone else before giving Danny a hug (how long had it been since he’d gotten one of those?) and leaving. Danny was so proud of him he almost cried (again).

Casual observation from someone old enough to remember: in the year 2000 financial advice was that rent should be no more than ¼ of your income.
Until the mid 80s, the advice was that if you must rent instead of owning, then that 20% of your monthly income (oh yes, only 20%) should include all your utilities too.
After all, rent costs more than a mortgage, so it should offer more too.

You know what it gets me? Bruce Wayne loved Dick Grayson on purpose. Bruce saw that little boy lose his parents and he took his hand on the same day deciding, I’m going to love you on purpose. I will take care of you. I have no idea on how to take care of a child, I’ve never imagined myself taking care of one either. But I will try with ever fiber of my being to give you a good life. I don’t know how to love but I will love you.
And he’s been keeping that promise ever since.

As someone who lost a parent and still has a biological family, what Bruce did for Dick is what made me admire him (and hate every time some writer makes him so cold to his children).
It’s so difficult for a child to have someone who understands what’s going on when you lose a parent. Not someone who just cares for you, but gets what is happening. I had my family, but after twenty years, I still have the scars that their disregard did to me.
Now we have therapists, psychologists, and is more “normal” to talk about what’s good for a child and what is not. Sometimes, Bruce Wayne is judged by modern concepts.
But ten years ago it wasn’t, and still nowadays is a tabu in some places.
And Bruce Wayne, more than fifty years ago, saw Dick Grayson losing both his parents and thought “This boy needs me”.
Did he do a good job? Depends on the writer, but most of them put Dick loving his adoptive father. Even if they had fights, an adult only goes to his father if he trusts him and cares for him.
What Bruce Wayne did to Dick is something beautiful.
